Directions To Kennywood
The Kennywood Theme Park is located in the small community of West Mifflin in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Situated along the west bank of the Ohio River, this popular amusement park is only about ten miles south of Pittsburgh, the second largest city in Pennsylvania. Kennywood Road, officially known as Pennsylvania Road 837, leads directly to the Kennywood Theme Park. There is a mega parking lot located on the west side of Kennywood Road. More than 5,000 vehicles can easily fit inside the parking space available across Kennywood Theme Park.
Drivers coming from Downtown Pittsburgh can get onto Interstate 376 East and then merge onto Beechwood Boulevard, which leads to the Homestead Gray Bridge. After crossing the short bridge across the Ohio River, drivers should get onto East 8th Avenue, which becomes Kennywood Road.
Interstate 79 runs through Allegheny County about 20 miles west of the Kennywood Theme Park. Stretching for more than 340 miles throughout western Pennsylvania and eastern West Virginia, I-79 is a major route taken by visitors just outside the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area. Interstate 79 runs through Pennsylvanian cities such as Erie and Washington and the city of Charleston in West Virginia. Anyone coming from well outside the Pittsburgh region will simply have to set up their GPS towards Pennsylvania's second biggest city, use major interstate highways, and then take local roads to get to Kennywood Theme Park.
The Port Authority of Allegheny County provides public bus transportation directly to the Kennywood amusement park. Bus routes 61C and 59 drop off passengers at the theme park's parking lot. These two bus routes can be used to transfer to other Port Authority lines that lead directly into Downtown Pittsburgh and other suburban communities. Additionally, the Port Authority also operates the Pittsburgh Light Rail system.
Union Station, also known locally as Penn Station, in Pittsburgh is served by the Amtrak Capitol Limited and Pennsylvanian lines. These two long distance train lines can be used by tourists from the northeast and Midwest regions. From Union Station, passengers can take a quick taxi ride directly to the entrance gates at the Kennywood Theme Park.
